A Big Deal
Big Day of Giving and GivingEdge — the nonprofit database that powers our annual giving day — are redefining local philanthropy.
Since 2013, Big Day of Giving has united our neighbors across the Sacramento region. To date, it has inspired more than 60,000 donors to give $91.5 million to nonprofits serving El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo counties.
In 2023, with the support of our trainings, 762 nonprofits raised a record $13.8 million during Big Day of Giving. Not only that, it has helped nonprofit staff and supporters deepen their connections and strengthen their impact in our community.

Big Day of Giving helps nonprofits reach new audiences: Each year, 25% of donors report giving to a nonprofit for the first time.

Eleven Years of Giving
Local generosity has generated more than $91.5 million for area nonprofits!
The Sacramento Region Community Foundation and our partners launched Big Day of Giving in 2013 because we know a strong nonprofit sector leads to a strong community. More than a decade later, we believe that — despite initially lagging national averages for both the percent of area households that give to nonprofits and the average amount given locally per household — giving to local organizations has been climbing in the Sacramento area, thanks in part to the focus Big Day of Giving has brought to local nonprofits and the generous spirit of our region.
In addition to rallying people to help nonprofits raise funds during 24 hours in early May, Big Day of Giving also provides year-round opportunities for nonprofits to strengthen their work through trainings focused on donor engagement, board development, and storytelling — key capacities that support their abilities to advance their work in our region.
Why? Stronger nonprofits are better able to achieve meaningful change in our community. That’s the real measure of Big Day of Giving’s success.
