A Unique Program for Local Youth

The Grants Advisory Board for Youth (GABY) exists to empower youth by equipping them with the skills, attitudes, knowledge, and opportunities necessary to prepare them for a future as community leaders.  GABY members receive training in areas such as philanthropy, meeting facilitation, and group decision-making.  GABY provides a way for youth to get hands-on experience with community leadership by providing funding and assistance to youth-led projects that GABY Group photoutilize local resources to address critical community challenges.

Since its inception in 2002, the GABY has granted $199,000 to 103 youth-led projects throughout the Sacramento region. In 2007 alone,  GABY members were responsible for granting out approximately $70,000 in Youth HOPE Grants to 29 youth-led projects in our service area!

During 2007- 2008, the Sacramento Region Comunity Foundation's  (SRCF) board of directors allocated nearly $100,000 to support the GABY program. Our Foundation has also partnered with the Sierra Health Foundation's REACH Initiative to expand the GABY program and increase the number of youth participants.  In 2007, SRCF and Sierra Health Foundation supported GABY programs in El Dorado and Placer counties.

The Sacramento Region Community Foundation will be initiating a new GABY 2.0 program that will include an e-learning course on youth philanthropy, project development, and grantmaking.  For program updates, please continue to visit our web site www.sacregcf.org.
