It's time to register for the region's biggest day in philanthropy!

BDoG2017 Deadline Approaching!

All nonprofits interested in participating in Big Day of Giving must have already attended an orientation, completed their online registration, and paid their registration fee. Next up: finishing their GivingEdge profiles (Step 4) by the end of January!


Registration for Big Day of Giving 2017 is underway and all organizations interested in participating in the 24-hour fundraising challenge (including the organizations that have already participated in Big Day of Giving in the past!) must complete the four-step registration process described below.
 


GET YOURSELF ORIENTED

In fall 2016, the Foundation hosted a series of in-person and webinar orientations that were required for all nonprofits interested in participating in Big Day of Giving 2017. Those orientations have ended. Organizations interested in participating in the Big Day of Giving 2018 campaign should sign up to be alerted of important dates related to the beginning of that program in fall of 2017.


GET REGISTERED

After attending an orientation, you will receive an email invitation to register your organization for Big Day of Giving. The online registration form will ask you to verify your organization's eligibility.

Take note! You must have completed your organization's online registration by December 31, 2016.


Is my organization eligible to participate?

To be eligible to participate in Big Day of Giving 2017, your organization must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization
  • Be headquartered or provide services with a physical office or branch in one or more of the following counties: Sacramento, Placer, Yolo, El Dorado
  • Have two years of financial reporting using an IRS FORM 990 or 990EZ only. We will not accept 990-Ns, 990-PFs or any other financial report or document. Some exceptions apply, including:
    • If your organization is a fiscally sponsored organization, its fiscal sponsor must adhere to the financial reporting requirements and your organization must be headquartered in the regions listed. You must also provide a copy of the fiscal sponsorship agreement.
    • If your organization participated in the 2016 Big Day of Giving and does not currently file using one of the approved IRS forms listed, you may register to participate in Big Day of Giving 2017 with the understanding that your organization will be required to file using an approved form in your next fiscal period. Should your organization not follow through with this action, it will not be eligible to participate in subsequent years. 
  • Nonprofit organizations that currently have a fund at the Sacramento Region Community Foundation or its affiliates are eligible to participate regardless of location. All other criteria listed above must be met.
     

What organizations can't participate?

Unfortunately, the following organizations are not eligible to participate in Big Day of Giving 2017:

  • Schools, churches, or government organizations
    • We will accept service organizations or foundations that are fiscally sponsored by a school or church, as long as eligibility requirements are met by the fiscal sponsor.
    • Organizations or foundations created to support schools or government organizations are eligible to participate as long as eligibility requirements are met. We will not accept PTAs, school sport teams or other school groups.  
  • Private foundations (filing a 990PF)
  • Supporting organizations (charity status of 509(a)(3))
  • Public safety organizations (charity status of 509(a)(4))
     

When is the deadline to register online?

Stupendous question! The deadline to register was December 31, 2016. Unfortunately, we cannot accept late registrations. Remember, you must first attend an orientation in order to complete your online registration. 
 

What if I have a question about eligibility?

If you have questions or are uncertain about your organization’s eligibility, please bring your questions with you to an orientation. Your questions will likely be answered during the session! You may also email the Big Day of Giving team at bdog@sacregcf.org.

 

 

GET SETTLED UP

Your organization's registration fee must have been paid upfront by credit card or check no later than December 31, 2016. (That means the option to pay the fee from donations earned is no longer available, unfortunately.) Please make sure your organization has completed Steps 1 and 2 prior to paying the registration fee.

How Do I Pay My Organization's Registration Fee?

Once you have completed your online registration, you will receive an email confirmation that you have been approved for participation. There will be instructions in your email that will direct you to make your secure online payment. The online system will allow you to use any major credit card or your bank account information to submit payment. 


What Is My Organization's Registration Fee?

Your organization's registration fee is based on its most recent operating budget and is non-refundable after February 1, 2017.

When Is My Organization's Registration Fee Due?

Fabulous question! Registration fees to participate in the 2017 Big Day of Giving were due no later than December 31, 2016.

 


GET YOUR PROFILE TOGETHER

Have you heard the good news? Big Day of Giving and GivingEdge have merged and will now live on one website! Nonprofits registering to participate in Big Day of Giving 2017 will be the first to complete their profiles on the news system.

How do I complete my nonprofit's profile?

All nonprofit Team Captains who completed the first steps for Big Day of Giving registration were emailed a link to complete their profiles on the new GivingEdge system. If you did not receive a link, please email the Big Day of Giving team at bdog@sacregcf.org.

What is the deadline for completing and submitting the profile?

Fabulous question! All profiles need to be completed and submitted for review by January 31, 2017. Due to the time-sensitive nature of this program, we cannot accept late submissions.

There's no such thing as a stupid question about Big Day of Giving, we always say. If you have questions or require assistance, please review our Big Day of Giving Frequently Asked Questions for Nonprofits. If you cannot find the answer to your question there, email the Big Day of Giving team at bigdog@sacregcf.org. We only ask that you allow us 24-48 hours to return your email (due to the high volume of inquiries our team receives!), and please note that the Sacramento Region Community Foundation is not able to accept phone calls regarding Big Day of Giving questions from participating nonprofits.

The Sacramento Region Community Foundation reserves the right to decline to permit any organization to participate in Big Day of Giving at any time, for any reason, in its sole discretion.
