Responding to Northern California Wildfires

Dear Friends of the Foundation,

Extremely dangerous wildfires continue throughout California's wine country, and donations from the public are needed to help offset the cost of the extraordinary emergency response services required during — and following — the emergency. The community foundations in Napa, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties have jointly established a fund to collect donations from the public to address a range of needs:

Napa, Sonoma and Mendocino counties’ community foundations have jointly mobilized the Northern California Fire Fund to respond to the devastating fires that have displaced thousands of residents, and have destroyed vast numbers of homes and businesses in their region.

The foundations have begun convening decision-makers from the nonprofit sector and local government to assess urgent needs, identify short term gaps and gather information that will inform longer-term recovery efforts.

  • The Fund will provide support for non-profit organizations as they help individuals, families and the community recover and rebuild
  • The funding distribution will be made by the region’s community foundations accredited by the National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations in the affected areas. To date those are the Community Foundation Mendocino County, Napa Valley Community Foundation, and Community Foundation Sonoma County.
  • The Foundations will consider both short-term and long-term recovery needs knowing that over time the needs will be very different and the financial costs will shift.

Tax-deductible contributions to the Fund are welcome in any amount.
