$13.8 million raised during Big Day of Giving

Donors display generosity for 762 local nonprofits during the Sacramento region's eleventh annual giving day

May 5, 2023

During yesterday’s Big Day of Giving, nonprofits in the Sacramento region raised a record $13.8 million*, exceeding the $13.4 million raised last year and bringing the total generated since the inception of this annual giving day to more than $91 million.

“Yesterday, over 30,000 people rallied once again to support organizations that make our community healthier, stronger, and more vibrant. These results showcase the community’s passion to increase philanthropy in the capital area,” said Kerry Wood, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Executive Officer of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation, which has organized the day-long giving event since its beginning in 2013.

Donations were received by each of the 762 nonprofits involved — the most to ever participate, Wood noted, demonstrating this event’s importance to the recovery of the capital region’s social sector. Donors made over 55,000 gifts.

Along with helping nonprofits raise much-needed funds, the Foundation offers a robust training program to build the capacity of participating nonprofits in areas such as donor engagement, board development, collaboration, marketing outreach, and storytelling prior to Big Day of Giving. Helping area nonprofits build skills like these is a key goal of the Foundation’s sustained initiative to strengthen the local nonprofit sector.

In addition to running Big Day of Giving each year, the Foundation provides solutions to help people make a philanthropic impact immediately or through their estates. From charitable funds that make grants to nonprofits, to scholarships that support students, to endowments in memory of loved ones, the Foundation helps individuals, families, and businesses achieve their philanthropic goals.

Big Day of Giving was made possible with lead sponsorship by Western Health Advantage, in addition to the generosity of its other community partners.
