The Foundation is thrilled to welcome Bret Hewitt to our Board of Directors.
“Bret contributes a tremendous wealth of knowledge to the Board of Directors,” said Kate Stille, Chair of the Board and Chief Impact Officer of Nugget Markets, Inc. “His expertise will be invaluable as our work to propel philanthropy in the Sacramento region continues — work he knows well after many years as a member of the Foundation’s Investment Committee and a Foundation fundholder himself.”
Over the course of a 45-year career as a public finance and endowment investments executive, Hewitt contributed to the success of organizations of varied size and purpose — including a Fortune 50 firm, a major research university, an innovative municipality, and multiple nationally recognized nonprofits — through implementation of customized endowment strategies.
Now retired, Hewitt commits his time and expertise to community service. In addition to his role as a member of the Investment Committee for the Foundation, he currently serves as President of the Board of Directors for our affiliate, Yolo Community Foundation.
Hewitt volunteers in many capacities with U.C. Davis and the City of Davis. He has served in various volunteer capacities for the university for over 30 years. In 2011, he was recognized with the Jerry Fielder Memorial Award, the most prestigious honor awarded by the Cal Aggie Alumni Association. He is the past chair of the City of Davis Planning Commission and currently serves as the chair of the Davis Joint Unified School District Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee. For 23 years, he served on the Board of Trustees of the Studio Theatre, one of the largest nonprofit theaters in Washington, D.C.
“In my previous career, I enjoyed the privilege of working with community foundations and know well the value of their work in their respective communities,” said Hewitt. “I look forward to doing the same with the Sacramento Region Community Foundation.”
Hewitt holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from U.C. Davis and an M.B.A. from Stanford University. He currently resides in Davis with his daughter, a high school sophomore.
By focusing on the root causes of local challenges, seeking solutions with long-term results, and supporting the organizations that tend to the vital needs of the capital area, we help create the conditions for meaningful transformation in the Sacramento region.
