Foundation awarded $24 million in 2022

Over $225 million has been awarded from Foundation charitable funds since 1983

January 31, 2023

Together with our fundholders, we awarded $24 million in grants and scholarships in 2022, bringing the total awarded since the Foundation's inception in 1983 to over $225 million.

“Community-driven philanthropy is a force for good in the Sacramento region. Each of these grants is an example of how generous people step up, day after day, to back causes that matter. Collectively, they illustrate what’s possible when we give together to help our community — our neighbors — emerge from years of cascading crises,” said Kerry Wood, our chief executive.

Most of the grants awarded in 2022 were directed by area individuals, families, and businesses that established charitable funds at the Foundation to facilitate their giving.

As in past years, the majority of the 2022 awards were disbursed within our four-county footprint. In all, over 3,300 philanthropic grants were awarded to nonprofits serving a range of sectors — including health, human services, education, arts, and culture — within El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento, and Yolo counties.

Our new Strategic Roadmap charges us to grow the philanthropic resources available to the Sacramento region and enhance our leadership activities, ensuring all of our efforts are rooted in — and advance — diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Included in the total are grants associated with our initiatives, such as Big Day of Giving, and over $5 million in grants that fulfill a partnership with Lodi Community Foundation and the Community Foundation of San Joaquin to support the growth of philanthropic activities in their service region. The total also reflects awards from the our scholarships; last year, these topped $892,000.
