The Foundation is thrilled to welcome Karen Baker, a nationally recognized leader, strategist, and community problem solver to our Board of Directors.
“We are thrilled to welcome a leader of Karen Baker’s caliber to our Board,” said Kate Stille, Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Directors. “She has incredible depth and breadth of experience in developing strategies to help address the challenges faced by the most vulnerable in our community.”
Through her service in cabinet posts under three governors—Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jerry Brown, and Gavin Newsom—Karen has built efforts that continue to show great impact. As an appointee of Governor Newsom, she held the roles of Architect and Co-chair of the Listos California Emergency Preparedness campaign, a people-centered effort that has reached nearly four million vulnerable Californians. Karen has also served as Senior Advisor in the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, has held several leadership positions at leading nonprofits in the homelessness and poverty arenas, and has served on the team that created AmeriCorps during the Clinton Administration.
“I’m excited about serving on the Foundation’s Board of Directors and the opportunity to serve alongside such inspiring and strategic leaders in our community,” said Karen. “Given my love of this region and my passion to create change and impact, I am looking forward to furthering the Foundation’s mission to transform our community through leadership and advocacy that inspire partnerships and expand giving.”
Karen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from the University of California at Los Angeles. She currently resides in Sacramento with her husband and two children.
By focusing on the root causes of local challenges, seeking solutions with long-term results, and supporting the organizations that tend to the vital needs of the capital area, we help create the conditions for meaningful transformation in the Sacramento region.
