Donors can make gifts to organizations that need their support starting April 21
April 5, 2022
Over 700 nonprofits in the capital area will rally donors to support their favorite charitable causes on Thursday, May 5 during the tenth Big Day of Giving, the annual online movement to strengthen the region’s nonprofit sector that has raised $65 million for local organizations since 2013.
“After two years of straining to meet skyrocketing need in our community, local nonprofits need our support to help the Sacramento region recover and feel like a vibrant community again,” said Niva Flor, Chief Impact & Strategy Officer, which organizes Big Day of Giving as part of our initiative to grow philanthropic giving in the capital area. “On Big Day of Giving, we’ll send a message loud and clear: We are a community that cares about giving back and working together to forge a brighter future for all.”
This year’s Big Day of Giving comes at a crucial time. Even as area nonprofits emerge from the pandemic, many anticipate the populations they serve will experience heightened social, economic, and health-related needs into the future—challenges that are further exacerbated by rising inflation that is squeezing many nonprofit budgets.
This year’s Big Day of Giving follows nine years of growth for the region-wide fundraiser, which reached record heights last year when donors in the Sacramento region contributed $13.3 million in 24 hours.
Donors who wish to plan their giving in advance of May 5 can visit bigdayofgiving.org to review comprehensive profiles of the more than 700 participating organizations and build fundraising pages to boost their support. New features on the website make it possible for businesses and other groups to inspire friendly competition among their members and raise funds toward a collective goal.
Starting April 21, donors can schedule their Big Day of Giving donations.
