Impact: Winter 2019

Welcome to the inaugural issue of Impact, the Foundation's magazine focused on philanthropy in the capital region. We are launching this publication in honor of our 35th anniversary, and in celebration of the impact that the Foundation, through its fundholders and partners, has had in this region.

Our aim is for Impact to educate, inform and inspire dialogue about issues and opportunities related to the state of generosity in our community. While each issue of the magazine will update you on the activities of the Foundation, we will also cover important topics of interest and present relevant-and sometimes provocative-conversations from subject matter experts.

In this issue, we share the progress we have made in our four Strategic Initiatives, highlight the transformational work of some of our nonprofit partners, and introduce you to new fundholders. We will also address the recent spate of misleading national press articles attacking Donor Advised Funds, share insights from a recognized tax professional regarding implications of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act for charitable giving, and, at the end of the magazine, offer a round-up of notes and happenings related to local philanthropy.

It is particularly poignant that we remember Burnett Miller, who recently passed away, in those final pages. A community icon, former Sacramento Mayor, and member of our founding Board of Directors, Burnett had a bold vision for the foundation he helped create, and we are committed to realizing it.

Our mission to transform our community through focused leadership and advocacy that inspire partnerships and expand giving is a bold one, after all. To reflect it, we have unveiled a refreshed brand that expresses the vibrancy of our vision for a flourishing capital area and the strength of our collective impact.

With a new magazine and a refreshed brand, we look forward to richly communicating the story of local philanthropy with you. As always, we welcome your comments and suggestions. The Foundation has a remarkable history, and here's to the next 35 years of inspiring philanthropy!
