Mort and Marcy Friedman Fund

Every city is blessed with a few families who stand out as philanthropic leaders. In Sacramento, the Friedman family has set a shining example for others by supporting projects that have transformed the Capital region into a metropolitan force.

Mort Friedman was a top litigation attorney and a brilliant real-estate developer. His partner in life and in philanthropy was his beloved wife, Marcy. Together, the Friedmans have given generously, providing major support for Crocker Art Museum, Shalom School, Capital Unity Center, and Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.

When Mort passed away in 2012, he was mourned by dear friends and a grateful community. Marcy continues to carry on the tradition of family philanthropy that has made such a difference. A former Foundation board member, she initiated a program to cultivate the next generation of philanthropists. Since 2003, the Grants Advisory Board for Youth (GABY) has provided young people with training in leadership through philanthropy. And, through the Mort and Marcy Friedman Fund, the family’s generosity endures at the Foundation.

There is no greater or more inspiring example of generosity than Mort and Marcy Friedman. This region is forever transformed by the boldness of their dreams.
