Tania Torres always dreamed of creating a charitable fund since learning about the importance of nonprofits and giving back in college. What her charitable fund’s mission would be became clear six years ago when she began her journey as a foster parent.
“I knew I wanted to create something that would live long after I am gone and continue to make an impact for children in foster care,” she shares.
Tania’s parents, immigrants to the United States who valued kindness and giving back, instilled in her the importance of community from her early age. “They showed me through their actions what it means to give back. When people are supported, they can achieve their dreams and create a brighter future for their children,” she reflects. Now a mother in her early forties, she strives to model those same values for her daughters.
In 2023, Tania connected with the Sacramento Region Community Foundation to explore establishing a Donor Advised Fund. After careful planning, she opened the Sierra Nevea Fund in March 2024, named for her two daughters. Inspired by their foster care journeys, Tania’s charitable fund supports organizations serving foster youth. She hopes the fund will teach her daughters about community and create an enduring legacy.
“I feel some peace knowing that through the fund I will be able to help children in foster care for years to come,” says Tania.
Tania’s endowed fund allows her to grant money annually, and she looks forward to working with her daughters to support foster youth nonprofits on Big Day of Giving. “I love how easy it is to create and manage my fund. From the staff to the online donor portal, it’s simple to see how my fund is doing and grant money out,” Tania shares.
