Sacramento Region Community Foundation recently awarded 10 grants to nonprofits through the Neighborhood Fund. Established in 2021 by a generous local donor passionate about serving the community, the Neighborhood Fund supports organizations providing impactful services within Sacramento’s Del Paso Heights and North Sacramento neighborhoods.
This year’s Neighborhood Fund grant recipients received a total of $159,400 and include:
Armstead Academic Project: Providing Del Paso Heights high school students with career education and exposure to higher education through Career Camps with local businesses and opportunities to visit Sacramento State and learn about the college application process.
Native Youth Forward: Supporting the mental health and wellness of Indigenous youth in Del Paso Heights and North Sacramento through cultural practices, mental health services, weekly youth programming, and opportunities to reconnect with the land and Indigenous traditions.
TruKidz: Providing essential hygiene kits to unhoused students and students experiencing financial hardship at Del Paso Heights schools, helping ensure young people have access to necessities so they can feel supported and ready to learn.
American Center for Empowerment: Supporting refugee youth and families through language development, tutoring, mentorship, dropout prevention, and parent engagement, with a focus on helping Afghan refugee youth overcome educational barriers and remain engaged in school.
Girls on the Run Greater Sacramento: Expanding its afterschool programming for girls in Del Paso Heights, combining physical activity with social-emotional learning, mentorship, and leadership development to build confidence, resilience, healthy relationships, and positive coping skills.
EGE Foundation: Providing free environmental education, leadership development, outdoor recreation, wellness activities, and career exploration for Del Paso Heights youth through its EGE Out! After school and summer programming.
CCCA Works: Launching the AlphabetEx Youth Fellowship, a creative mentorship and workforce development program that will help Del Paso Heights youth build artistic skills, confidence, leadership, and exposure to creative career pathways.
California Center for Civic Participation: Launching DPH Youth in Action, a leadership and civic empowerment program that will provide Del Paso Heights youth with workforce readiness, civic education, advocacy experience, and opportunities to build leadership skills.
Broad Room Creative Collective: Expanding free arts-based programming for Del Paso Heights youth through expressive arts workshops, after-school activities, and access to art supplies, hygiene kits, and grocery support.
Bright Braille Inc.: Providing free accessibility education, resource navigation, youth leadership development, and family engagement opportunities to help Del Paso Heights youth and families overcome barriers related to accessibility, transportation, technology, and community resources.
“The Neighborhood Fund started with one person who wanted to invest directly in Del Paso Heights and North Sacramento, and it’s a model others can follow,” says Kelly Siefkin, the Foundation’s Chief Philanthropy Officer, who noted the fund is a Field of Interest Fund. “By opening a charitable fund like this one, a donor can create an ongoing source of grant support for any cause, community, or place they care about.”
Since it was established, the Neighborhood Fund has awarded $361,600 to local nonprofits, supporting programs and services that respond to community needs and create opportunities for young people and families throughout Del Paso Heights and North Sacramento.
These grants are aligned with the Foundation’s broader, ongoing investment in Del Paso Heights and North Sacramento, which includes both direct grantmaking and nonprofit capacity-building support throughout the year.
