Collective Impact
Food Access in Yolo County
To address growing food insecurity in Yolo County, the Sacramento Region Community Foundation is investing in urgent relief and long-term strategies to make food more accessible and sustainably distributed.

Rooted in Community
Everyone deserves to live a healthy life, no matter their ZIP code, income, or the obstacles they face. That’s why health equity is at the heart of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation’s leadership initiatives.
Guided by local data, community voice, and decades of nonprofit partnership, we invest where the need is urgent and the potential for lasting impact is high — including addressing food insecurity in Yolo County, a region rich in agriculture yet marked by deep disparities in access to nutritious food. Learn how.

What We’re Doing
Our support fuels immediate relief while laying the groundwork for sustainable solutions. Together with Yolo Food Bank and its dozens of partner agencies, we’re advancing efforts to:
- Deliver emergency food boxes to families in remote or underserved areas
- Make it easier for food pantries and distributors to expand and serve more people
- Partner with farmers to grow and harvest fresh, local produce for charitable distribution
These investments are:
Feeding thousands of people each month.

Why It Matters
Despite its agricultural abundance, Yolo County faces some of the highest rates of food insecurity in the region. According to data compiled by Yolo Food Bank, nearly 1 in 3 families struggles to access enough to eat.
Hunger shows up in different ways for members of our community — whether farmworkers, students, unhoused neighbors, elderly. Meanwhile, food banks and pantries are stretched thin. Demand for food assistance has jumped 20% in the past year just as government support is shrinking.
How We Got Here
This work builds on years of listening, learning, and partnership. It’s informed by:
- Region-wide needs assessment, led by community voices and informed by data.
- Yolo County food access research, conducted in collaboration with local stakeholders.
- Ongoing work to build connections across the food sector, such as the Food System Action Plan.
Together, these efforts highlight the complexity of the issue — and the opportunity for lasting change when we work together.

“This support could not come at a more critical time as federal and state funding are slashed. These dollars will feed hungry families immediately, as well as invest in removing barriers to food access and nutrition.”
