As part of the Sacramento Region Community Foundation’s ongoing effort to understand how recent funding cuts are impacting local nonprofits, many leaders shared that advocacy training and resources are among their most pressing needs. To learn more, we invited them to share their experiences, interests, and priorities related to advocacy. Fifty-three leaders responded.
The results reveal strong, widespread interest in advocacy training, regardless of organizational size or experience level, with 90% of respondents expressing interest. Leaders are especially eager to strengthen their communication, coalition-building, and policy navigation skills. Across the board, the most common barriers to advocacy engagement include limited staff time, funding, and confidence.
We’re grateful to everyone who shared their insights. The Sacramento Region Community Foundation and community partners are reviewing the survey findings to identify practical and collaborative ways to strengthen advocacy capacity across our region. We look forward to keeping you updated about outcomes.
