The Sacramento Region Community Foundation distributed $23.6 million in grants and scholarships in 2024, bringing the total awarded since the organization was founded in 1983 to $275 million — thanks to the generosity of our region’s caring individuals, families, and businesses through their charitable funds.
“Most of these grants come from local people stepping up, day after day, to support causes that matter,” said Kerry Wood, our Chief Executive Officer. “It’s a testament to the incredible heart and commitment of this community.”
Over $8 million of the grants were inspired by Big Day of Giving, our annual 24-hour fundraising event for local nonprofits, and the year-round giving platform that powers it, GivingEdge. Nearly $1 million of the total was awarded through our scholarship programs, helping students achieve their dreams of higher education, and $1.6 million represents grants from charitable funds held at our affiliate, the Yolo Community Foundation.
Founded in 1983 as a project of the Junior League of Sacramento to inspire local giving, the Sacramento Region Community Foundation has grown into a cornerstone of philanthropy in the region.
Today, we’re as committed as ever to innovation and impact. Already this year, we introduced enhancements to GivingEdge and we launched the Impact Collaborative, a new initiative inviting our neighbors to fuel transformative efforts. Looking ahead, we are advancing our health equity priority, a leadership focus shaped by input from hundreds of local residents and donors, and introducing even more innovations in local philanthropy.
“Together, we accomplished so much in 2024, and the impact of these efforts will continue to grow thanks to the incredible people and businesses who have joined our community of philanthropists,” said Kerry.
